Pre-workout, BCAAs, Protein - The Basics

The purpose of this post is to explain what our supplements are intended to do and how you can use them properly. This is intended for those new to the supplement arena.


Protein supplements are essentially taken to:

  • Build Muscle
  • Aid in Muscle Recovery

Your body needs protein to build muscle and a lot of the time those who are physically active do not consume enough protein in their diet alone, this is where a supplement comes in. This is not intended nor should it be your only source of protein but is a great way to meet the daily protein consumption without adding too many calories.

As a general rule it is recommended you consume 0.8-1 gram of protein per pound of bodyweight. (while training to build muscle) So a 150 lb man should consume anywhere between 120g-150g of protein throughout the day. If he only consumes 100g of protein with his regular diet the rest can be consumed through supplements.

Protein supplements are best taken after your workout that day.



GNC Explains BCAAs As:

Essentially it is increasing muscle endurance. Some studies have also shown BCAAs to help muscle recovery and boost protein synthesis.

It is recommended you consume this during or immediately after your workout.
